The heat was intense. The classrooms were warm. The hall felt like a summer greenhouse. Yet performing a school magic show in hot weather turned into one of the most enjoyable days I have ever had. Four shows. Four age groups. One magician who kept every child focused, excited, and amazed from start to finish.
Despite the rising temperature, the pupils were calm, well behaved, and ready for fun. Teachers also really enjoyed themselves, with some looking more amazed than the children. My energy, pacing, and humour kept the room cool in spirit, even if the air was warm.
The School Magic Show Begins
The first school magic show began with Years 3 and 4. They watched closely as ropes changed size, rings linked, and predictions came true. The highlight was a card that had been folded and displayed from the very beginning. When it transformed into the chosen card, the hall erupted. Even the staff at the back gasped. It was a strong start to a long day.
Years 1 and 2 followed. They were full of excitement, but still listened well. The sponge balls appeared and vanished in ways that made the children shout with joy. The final card routine ended the show on a high note.
The third school magic show was for Years 5 and 6. They were eager for something more advanced, and they got it. The sweets routine, the Rubik’s Cube, and the locked prediction box created a sense of real mystery. I handed the box to one side of the hall and the key to the other. The suspense built throughout the show. When the box was finally opened, inside was another box with the selected signed card. The reaction was huge. Teachers exchanged looks of disbelief.
The final school magic show of the day was for Nursery and Reception. Even in the heat, they were gentle, quiet, and ready to watch. The rising wand made them shout with delight. The breakaway wand made them laugh again. The magic colouring book filled the room with colour. The pokemon routine made the children cheer loudly.
Running a school magic show in hot weather is never easy. Children get tired. Teachers worry about comfort. But this day proved that the right pacing, the right tricks, and the right atmosphere can turn even the hottest afternoon into a magical memory.
